β οΈ Important note: Before using a water flosser, please consult your dental professional, especially if you have had or are planning to have extensive dental work such as implants, bridges, crowns, or orthodontic treatment. Your dentist or hygienist can advise on the most appropriate pressure settings and technique for your specific needs.
π‘ First-time tip: If this is your first time using a water flosser, drape a towel around your shoulders before you begin. It can get a little splashy while you find your technique and that's completely normal!
Models may vary
Step 1 β Fill the water reservoir
Fill the water reservoir with tepid (lukewarm) water. Avoid cold or hot water, as extreme temperatures can be uncomfortable on sensitive teeth and gums. The 300ml tank on your Portable Water Flosser is large enough for a full clean without needing to refill mid-session, but you may need to refill if you're extra thorough.
Step 2 β Choose and attach your nozzle
Select the nozzle that suits your needs. Your flosser comes with 6 attachments, including a standard jet tip, a toothbrush attachment, and specialist tips for braces, implants, and periodontal pockets. Insert the chosen nozzle firmly into the handle until it clicks into place, then rotate it to the angle that feels most comfortable for your mouth.
Step 3 β Check and set the pressure level
Press the mode button to cycle through the 5 available pressure settings and choose the one that suits you. The device will display or indicate the current mode.
π‘ First-time tip: Always start on the lowest pressure setting if you are new to water flossing. Your gums may be sensitive at first, and a gentle setting is more than enough to be effective. You can gradually increase the pressure over the following days and weeks as your gums adjust.
β οΈ Important: Only switch the device on once the nozzle is inside your mouth and aimed at your teeth. This prevents water spraying around your bathroom before you're ready!
Step 4 β Position yourself over the sink
Lean forward over the sink and open your mouth slightly. Aim the nozzle at your bottom teeth to begin. Keeping your mouth open enough to let the water flow freely into the sink will make the process much more comfortable and less messy.
Step 5 β Work along the gumline
Slowly guide the nozzle along the gumline, working systematically around both your upper and lower jaw. Treat each tooth individually, pausing briefly between teeth to flush out debris. Make sure to clean both the front and the back of your teeth, as plaque and food particles build up on both sides. Don't forget to also direct the jet inside your cheeks to flush out any remaining debris. Let the water flow naturally into the sink as you go, there's no need to swallow or spit.
Step 6 β Clean and store the device after use
Once you have finished, switch off the device before removing it from your mouth. Detach the nozzle and rinse it thoroughly under running water. Empty any remaining water from the reservoir; never leave standing water in the tank between uses, as this can encourage bacteria to grow. Finally, switch the unit back on brieflyΒ without the nozzle attached to expel any residual water from the internal tube and reservoir. This keeps the internal components clean and dry.
π‘ Tip: Your flosser is IPX7 waterproof, so you can rinse the body of the unit under the tap if needed, just avoid submerging it fully.
Step 7 β Store safely for next use
Allow the unit and nozzle to air dry before storing. Place them in the included storage bag to keep everything together and protected, ideal whether you're at home or travelling. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. With a 30-day battery life on a single charge, you won't need to worry about charging frequently during regular use.
A few extra tips for best results
- Use it daily β ideally after brushing, at least once a day. Consistency is key to seeing improvements in gum health.
- Use it in the shower β your flosser is fully waterproof (IPX7 rated), so using it in the shower is a great way to keep things mess-free.
- Replace nozzles regularly β as with a toothbrush, nozzle tips should be replaced every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles or tip show signs of wear.
- Don't rush β a thorough water flossing session should take around 1β2 minutes. Take your time and work methodically around every tooth.
- Stick with it β your gums may bleed slightly in the first few days of use. This is common and usually settles within 1β2 weeks as your gum health improves. If bleeding persists, consult your dentist.
